THE SUCCESS STORY OF IVAN ZARICHNIAK

It is possible to start a new life after a stroke

I'm used to taking care of myself, my family, and the household, so being dependent on external help has been a real challenge for me

Mr. Ivan (from Khust) arrived at "Modrychi" accompanied by his wife after suffering his second stroke.

Diagnosis: status post ischemic stroke in the left MCA territory, resulting in right-sided hemiparesis and motor aphasia. Recurrent acute cerebrovascular accident.

Mr. Ivan is a man who was used to taking care of himself, his family, and the household, which he actively managed. His dependence on external help was a real challenge for him.

Valuing even the smallest achievements and maintaining a positive attitude toward rehabilitation played a significant role in his recovery. Initially, his shoulder began to function, followed by his forearm, and after just ten days of rehabilitation, we observed positive progress in his recovery, says occupational therapist Kateryna Bachynska.

After three weeks of rehabilitation, Ivan Zarichniak:
✔️ Began moving independently with the help of a single-point cane;
✔️ Learned to go up and down stairs;
✔️ Managed to maintain balance;
✔️ Regained his speech and was able to express his thoughts clearly;
✔️ Increased his strength and endurance;
✔️ Became more independent in daily life and was able to take care of himself.

❗️ It is important to remember that rehabilitation after a stroke should begin early, as it is most effective during this time.

Recovery should start on the second or third day of hospitalization, after the patient's condition has stabilized. This does not mean heavy physical exertion but rather avoiding immobility and complete rest, which can lead to complications such as contractures, bedsores, inflammatory processes, pneumonia, constipation, and irreversible changes in brain function.

The first three months after a stroke are the most productive for recovery.

The belief that patients should avoid physical exertion after a stroke is incorrect. A well-planned, step-by-step recovery program, developed by a team of doctors, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, allows the patient to return to a full life and restore mobility, independence in daily activities, and avoid possible complications in the shortest possible time.

An individual program we create for each patient allows for setting achievable, specific, and realistic goals, which is especially important. Additionally, Ivan received recommendations for continuing rehabilitation after returning home.
___________
Starting a new life after a stroke is possible, but it is a thoughtful and focused process that requires a partnership between the patient, their loved ones, doctors, and physical therapists.
