He dreamed of being like his father and becoming a soldier. At just 14 years old, he enrolled in the Lviv Lyceum named after the Heroes of Kruty. Unfortunately, he only managed to study there for one year. A tragic incident changed everything…

On March 25, while returning home on leave, Andrii Shyra was found unconscious by the roadside. Polytrauma, severe TBI, brain swelling, fractures of the cervical vertebrae and ribs, and lung contusions…

After 12 brain surgeries, Andrii was brought to "Modrychi" in the intensive care unit, unconscious, with a gastrostomy and tracheostomy.

Here, the fight for his life continued. The medical team's goal was to stabilize his condition. The round-the-clock care and support from the medical staff allowed them to keep a close watch on any changes and respond instantly to the patient's needs. For several weeks, we constantly monitored vital signs, and Andrii was examined by all relevant specialists, with diagnostics enabling us to adjust his medication as needed, explains Iryna Lirnyk, the chief doctor at MRC Modrychi.

Despite pessimistic forecasts, Andrii began to recover.

We taught him to:
✔️ Sit up;
✔️ Swallow independently;
✔️ Respond to sounds;
✔️ We removed the tracheostomy.
___________
The love and faith of his parents, along with the professionalism of the rehabilitation team, made the impossible possible.
