Overcoming the consequences of a stroke and returning to a full life
"Modrychi is like McDonald's, everything is structured and precise"
Volodymyr Sheiko
Volodymyr Sheiko (Chernihiv region, 58 years old) came to "Modrychi" ten months after suffering a stroke.
Diagnosis: Stroke.
He was using a wheelchair, his left side was non-functional, and he had speech impairments.
Volodymyr believes that there is no better center than "Modrychi": "It's like McDonald's, where everything is timely, the team is cohesive, professional, nothing superfluous, everything is clear and to the point, starting from how they greet you to how they work with you. The only downside is that there’s very little free time, as the breaks between sessions are very short."
It is well known that stroke ranks third in the world among diseases that cause fatal outcomes (after cancer and cardiovascular diseases) and second among diseases leading to disability.
People over 60 are most affected by stroke.
Post-stroke impairments (such as the inability to walk independently, speech disorders, and dependency in daily living and self-care) require mandatory rehabilitation. This is not about drips or injections but systematic work with a physical therapist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist who develop a set of exercises aimed at restoring lost functions and maximizing the return to a full life.
The first six months are crucial for rehabilitation, as there is a chance to minimize the consequences of the stroke as much as possible. Recovery should begin immediately after the patient receives the necessary medical care in the hospital.
The myth that a stroke patient should remain immobile for 2-3 weeks has long been debunked.
“Time is brain!” - this phrase by American neurologist Camilo Gomez can be considered the motto for stroke treatment. The more time we lose, the fewer chances we have for success.
After two months of rehabilitation, Volodymyr:
✔️ got out of his wheelchair and began moving with the help of a cane, and restored his speech.
✔️ started walking with a cane,
✔️ regained his speech.
For each patient, the multidisciplinary team at the "Modrychi" Medical Rehabilitation Center develops an individual program based on clear, measurable, and realistic goals within specific timeframes. This way, we understand clearly and consistently how we are progressing toward the main goal—overcoming the consequences of a stroke and returning to a full life.
