Car accident and minimal chances of survival
"Yura did not respond to instructions, did not follow them, and only screamed loudly"

Yurii Savchuk (17 years old, from Rydymel village, Ternopil region) was admitted to our center in an extremely critical condition.
Writing about the rehabilitation results of such patients is a great pride for our entire team.
During the car accident, Yura suffered a closed head injury: severe brain contusion (subarachnoid hemorrhage in the left side of the posterior cranial fossa, along the upper contour of the cerebellar tentorium, with spastic tetraparesis, bulbar syndrome, and psychomotor agitation).
Yurii spent two months in intensive care. The chances of survival were minimal. His parents brought him to "Modrychi" completely bedridden, with a tracheostomy, feeding tube, unable to speak, sit, with no movement in the right side (which was paralyzed) and paresis in the left side.
Occupational therapist Veronika Tokmakova immediately began working with him in the intensive care unit. She recalls that Yurii could only communicate with his eyes, understood simple commands, but always screamed loudly and did not speak. They worked on overcoming contractures, increasing the range of motion, and sensory stimulation.
"Yura did not respond to instructions, did not follow them, and only screamed loudly," recalls physical therapist Ihor Yavir, who also began rehabilitation with Yurii in the intensive care unit.
In the initial phase, the physical therapist's goal was to prevent complications, contractures, and bedsores. However, every day and every week, the patient showed new results, which were important victories on the road to recovery.
Ihor recalls with a smile that the first word his patient said was, "goodbye," as if out of joy that the session was over and he was being left in peace!) From that moment, Yurii began to engage more actively in the work, consciously understanding all instructions, and the rehabilitation reached a new level.
Since then, they have worked on:
✔️ independent turning,
✔️ sitting,
✔️ adapting to an upright position.
Nearly two months after the injury, Yurii Savchuk underwent his first verticalization at the beginning of January, and a week later, he took his first step with his paralyzed leg. Since then, the patient has amazed everyone with his rapid recovery. His mother, Halyna Savchuk, calls it nothing short of a miracle.
Now, Yura:
✔️ walks independently without assistive devices, although there is still a risk of falling.
✔️ practices overcoming obstacles, improving the functionality and correctness of movements during walking, and building endurance.
✔️ works with the occupational therapist on issues related to short-term memory and logic.
___________
He brightens everyone's day with his jokes and positive attitude, dreams of returning home, seeing his friends, riding his motorcycle, and going to church, where he has served since childhood.
