Mariia Rebryk from Ivano-Frankivsk region was admitted to our center in an acute condition, two weeks after a stroke.

Diagnosis: stroke.

Lack of movement in both the left and right limbs, unable to sit up independently, required assistance with dressing and feeding, and was highly dependent on external help. Complaints of dizziness and nausea with any movement.

"Rehabilitation for life, not life for rehabilitation" is the principle embraced by our head physical therapist at CVL "Modrychi," Oleh Masnyi.According to Oleh, one of the important missions of "Modrychi" is educational. We strive to change the perspective on rehabilitation, on the personal role of the patient in this process, and to introduce the latest global practices. Our goal is to prevent the life of a person who has survived tragic circumstances from turning into an exhausting ordeal of visiting medical centers. We honestly inform patients about what to expect at each stage of recovery. Sometimes, we also need to help change their life philosophy, preparing them to accept a new reality and teaching them how to live in it after life-changing events.

Minimal rehabilitation goals for Ms. Mariia

  1. Adapting to sitting and upright positions;
  2. Maintaining balance while sitting and standing;
  3. Training in weight transfer to the affected side.

Thanks to proper rehabilitation and her personal efforts, within five weeks, day by day, Ms. Mariia relearned how to stand up, sit down, take her first steps, walk, eat independently, and take care of herself in daily life.

✔️ By the third week of rehabilitation, the patient could already transfer her weight, the physical therapist's assistance decreased by 50%, she began to sit up independently with minimal help, and she could maintain balance in an upright position. Ms. Mariia also learned to dress both the upper and lower parts of her body independently. We added obstacle navigation and practiced walking up stairs and on inclined surfaces.

✔️ During the fourth week, independent compensatory movements emerged; the patient began moving independently with assistance for 30 meters (and 90 meters with a break); the physical therapist's assistance was reduced to 25%.

✔️ By the fourth to fifth week of rehabilitation, Mariia Rebrik began to stand up from the wheelchair independently with minimal 10% assistance from the therapist and to move her legs.
