Ruslan Lutsyuk - Rehabilitation After Stroke

Before: He could not speak, walk, sit, move, eat independently, or understand what was happening.

After: He started speaking, eating and breathing independently, and moving.

Ruslan Lutsyuk first came to our intensive care unit after a stroke. He couldn't speak, understand what was happening, walk, sit, or move. Along with speech therapist Kristina Dozhuk, he re-learned to swallow, breathe, understand words, and speak.

Now, on his third visit to Modrychi, Kristina is pleased with her patient's progress. They are now refining his writing, reading, solving logical problems, counting, and learning to speak. They also reminisce about many touching moments they shared here at Modrychi.

We always emphasize the importance of starting rehabilitation as soon as possible after a stroke. Early rehabilitation is crucial for preventing complications related to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems and bedsores.

Rehabilitation measures (such as verticalization and activation) should begin within the first hours after a stroke. Active rehabilitation starts on the 2nd or 3rd day in the ICU, once the patient's condition stabilizes.

Our multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and psychologists, works together with the patient’s family or caregiver.

An individualized rehabilitation program is developed for each patient, taking into account the severity of the stroke and the patient's recovery needs. This program is constantly adjusted based on the progress of recovery.
